Kolhapur: The State Excise Department (SED) of the Kolhapur division has seized a large consignment of Goa-made foreign liquor along with a truck, with the total value estimated at ₹1.15 crore, at Anuskura village in Shahuwadi tehsil.
As per an official statement, the department’s Bharari Squad acted on specific intelligence and set up a trap at the Anuskura Ghat stretch.
A suspicious truck was intercepted, and a detailed search led to the recovery of 160 cartons of Goa-made liquor hidden inside the vehicle.
The seized liquor and the truck have been taken into custody. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Ranjivan Virdharan Vishnoi from Barmer district in Rajasthan, was arrested on the spot.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the liquor was being transported towards Gujarat via Karad.
SED officials have initiated further probe to trace the source and possible links in the smuggling network.
