PANAJI: Goa Medical College & Hospitals (GMC) successfully organized the 5th season of its Inter-Departmental Football League Tournament and Women’s Tiebreaker on 11th May 2025 at the GMC Athletic Stadium, Bambolim, Goa. The tournament, which began in 2019 under the visionary leadership of Dean Prof. Dr. Shivanand Bandekar, continues to promote camaraderie, fitness, and team spirit among healthcare professionals.
The men’s championship saw a thrilling final, with the Dean’s Office team, League Legends, clinching the title. Boom Boom Neuro finished as the runners-up after a competitive run in the league.
In the women’s category, a special tiebreaker event was held, where the Cardio Strikers emerged victorious.
The event was honored by the presence of several distinguished guests. Chief Guest Shri Bruno Coutinho, Arjuna Awardee and Director of Coaching at SAG Goa, attended alongside Ms. Eki Shukla, Accountant General Goa; Shri Akhil Kumar, Deputy Accountant General Goa; Shri Amit Kumar Mishra, IAS, Secretary Health; Mrs. Sadhana Bandekar, former Chief Engineer, PWD Goa; and Pranav Bhat, Joint Secretary, Finance and Health.
Adding to the spirit of the event, a friendly exhibition match was played between teams from Goa Medical College and the Goa Secretariat. The Secretariat team won the closely contested game, further enhancing the atmosphere of healthy competition and sporting spirit.
The tournament once again highlighted GMC’s commitment to fostering wellness and unity through sports among its staff and departments.
