PANAJI: In a major push towards sustainable urban development, Goa’s Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane chaired a high-level meeting with officials from the Forest Department, Urban Development, and StudioPOD to chart the next steps for implementing the state’s ambitious ‘Green Lung’ initiative across municipalities.
The initiative seeks to integrate well-designed open spaces within urban areas to promote ecological balance, improve air quality, and offer residents accessible green spaces to connect with nature. Emphasizing sustainability and long-term impact, the meeting focused on embedding functionality and ecological resilience into the planning and execution of these spaces.
“A dedicated committee will be constituted to monitor progress, ensuring seamless coordination between StudioPOD and the Forest and Urban Development departments,” Minister Rane said following the meeting. “Our goal is to create urban environments that are not just liveable, but climate-resilient.”
He reaffirmed that the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sustainable and inclusive development continues to guide Goa’s policies in this area. “We are aligning our urban growth with nature conservation to create a better quality of life for all Goans,” Rane added.
The Green Lung initiative is part of the state’s broader efforts to address environmental challenges posed by urbanisation while making cities healthier and more sustainable for future generations.
