PANAJI: Goa has taken a major step toward introducing next-generation aerial mobility with the signing of an MoU between the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C), the Department of Tourism, and Sarla Aviation Pvt. Ltd. The agreement, signed at Paryatan Bhavan in the presence of IT and Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte and senior officials, paves the way for establishing an Advanced Design and Development Center in the state and integrating VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) technology into Goa’s tourism and mobility sectors.
Minister Khaunte said the partnership signals Goa’s entry into design-driven and future mobility industries, adding that the initiative will generate high-value jobs, skilling opportunities and new career pathways for Goan youth. As part of the collaboration, Sarla Aviation will set up a long-term base in the state focused on advanced aerospace research, system design, testing and prototype development. Backed by major investors, the company is developing a six-seater electric VTOL aircraft aimed at easing road congestion and enabling clean, efficient aerial travel.
The MoU outlines a comprehensive roadmap for VTOL-based mobility in Goa, including consultations with hotel and tourism operators, formulation of a Goa-specific Urban Air Mobility policy, assessment of airport-to-resort aerial routes and identification of a Goa-based operator for future VTOL services. Senior officials from DITE&C and the Tourism Department said the project aligns with Goa’s technology-led development goals and will help reinvent local tourism by offering faster, environmentally conscious travel between beaches, resorts and hinterland destinations.
Sarla Aviation CEO Adrian Schmidt said the company aims to introduce advanced air mobility services in Goa as early as 2029, and that Goa’s conducive environment will support the establishment of its first Satellite Studio, attracting world-class talent. The partnership reinforces Goa’s push toward innovation while positioning the state as a national leader in India’s emerging aerial mobility landscape.
