PANAJI: Days after Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai revealed a sting operation in the Assembly on live gaming in onshore casinos, the State government has tightened its gambling regulations with significantly higher penalties for violations of licence terms.
A Home Department notification issued on August 6, 2025, amends the Goa Public Gambling Act, 1976, to impose fines of ₹25 lakh for the first offence, ₹50 lakh for the second, and ₹75 lakh for the third or subsequent offences.
Violations will also result in the forfeiture of the licensee’s security deposit and may lead to licence cancellation. The changes, published in the Official Gazette, take immediate effect.
Reacting to the move, Sardesai said, “I am happy that fines have been increased, but we will keep the government on their toes for the revenue loss.”
Officials said the amendments aim to ensure stricter compliance in the State’s regulated gambling sector. By
