PANAJI: The Goa government has formally notified the North Goa Urban Mobility Area and South Goa Urban Mobility Area, paving the way for the rollout of electric bus services under the Centre’s flagship PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme.
The Department of Urban Development said the notification will facilitate planning of routes, creation of supporting infrastructure, and eventual launch of e-bus operations across statutory and census towns. Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) has been designated as the implementing agency, while a state-level steering committee chaired by the Chief Secretary will evaluate and process project proposals.
Introduced in August 2023, the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme targets deployment of 10,000 electric buses nationwide at an estimated investment of ₹57,613 crore under a public-private partnership model. The scheme is focused on strengthening urban mobility and promoting clean transport in cities with populations between three and 40 lakh, along with smaller state capitals identified in the 2011 Census.
Officials said the move marks a significant step toward eco-friendly mobility in Goa, promising greener travel options and better connectivity across municipal areas in both districts.
