PANAJI: Goa endured a tough outing in the U-23 Women’s T20 Elite Cricket Tournament after falling to a commanding nine-wicket loss against Bengal at the Lady Amritbai Daga College Ground in Nagpur on Tuesday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Goa struggled to build momentum and posted 100 for 7 in their 20 overs. Harshita Yadav provided stability at the top with a composed 44 off 52 deliveries that included seven boundaries. She found brief support from Tanisha Gaikwad, who added 20, and Athashree Shivarkar, who chipped in with 15. Despite their efforts, the team found it difficult to accelerate against a disciplined Bengal attack.
Bengal kept the scoring rate in check through consistent bowling. Sushmita Ganguly and Prativa Mandi made key breakthroughs with two wickets each, restricting Goa’s progress during the middle overs. Indian international Titas Sadhu delivered a controlled spell as well, finishing with one wicket for 21 runs and contributing to the pressure that kept Goa from posting a larger total.
In reply, Bengal made light work of the chase. Although they lost opener Sushmita Paul early, the setback had little impact on their momentum. Sujata Dey took charge with a dominant unbeaten 63 from just 30 balls, showcasing aggressive strokeplay that rapidly tilted the match in Bengal’s favour. She received steady support from Piyali Ghosh, who remained not out on 33 from 28 balls as the pair steered the team to 101 for 1 in only 10.2 overs.
The comprehensive victory underlined Bengal’s control with both bat and ball, while Goa will look to regroup quickly. Their next match is scheduled for Thursday, November 27, at the VCA Stadium in Civil Lines, Nagpur.
