PANAJI: Goa delivered a clinical all-round performance to defeat Madhya Pradesh by seven wickets in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite T20 clash at the Salt Lake JU Second Campus in Kolkata. Led by stellar half-centuries from skipper Suyash Prabhudessai and Abhinav Tejarana, the team successfully chased down a competitive target with nine balls to spare.
Asked to bowl first, Goa kept Madhya Pradesh to 170/6 in 20 overs. Arjun Tendulkar led the attack with a 3/36 spell, supported by Heramb Parab (2/27) and Koushik (1 wicket). For MP, Harpreet Singh Bhatia stood tall with an unbeaten 80 off 52, while Aniket Verma (34) and Rajat Patidar (29) added valuable runs.
Goa’s chase began on a shaky note with early dismissals of openers Ishan Gadekar (5) and Arjun Tendulkar (16). But the game turned firmly in Goa’s favour when Abhinav Tejarana and Suyash Prabhudessai stitched together a crucial 89-run stand for the third wicket.
Abhinav’s blistering 55 off 33 balls featuring 3 fours and 4 sixes set the platform, while Suyash took charge with a match-winning unbeaten 75 off 50, smashing 6 fours and 3 sixes. He later shared a steady 57-run unbeaten partnership with Lalit Yadav (12*) to seal the chase at 171/3 in 18.3 overs.
After four matches in Group B, Goa now stands with two wins and two losses, accumulating 8 points. They will face Bihar next on the 4th.
Goa’s composed chase, sharp bowling effort, and strong partnerships underline the team’s growing confidence and rising stature in India’s domestic T20 circuit.
