Ponda: In a swift operation, Goa Police, with assistance from Karnataka authorities, have arrested Munir Al Shafiq (22), a Mangaluru resident, in connection with the daylight abduction of Ponda-based businessman Sandeep Chaudhary (32). The police revealed that the kidnapping stemmed from a business dispute between the two men.
Chaudhary, who runs a factory in Kundaim, reportedly owed Shafiq, who owns a scrap factory in Mangaluru, Rs 40 lakh. Police said that Shafiq orchestrated the kidnapping using his workers, who abducted Chaudhary from Joplinagar, Ponda, on Tuesday afternoon at around 3:15 pm.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shivram Vaigankar, Shafiq’s men used a car to seize Chaudhary and transported him towards Bengaluru, while Shafiq followed them in a separate vehicle. During a police chase, the kidnappers abandoned the victim, who was found injured after being beaten.
Thanks to information shared by Karnataka Police, Shafiq was apprehended in Kolhapur as he attempted to travel to Mumbai. Police teams remain active in Karnataka, with further arrests expected.
The case was cracked after Chaudhary’s staff noticed suspicious activity and recorded the kidnappers’ vehicle number while following the car on a scooter. This quick thinking led to a coordinated cross-state operation that secured the businessman’s release.
