PORVORIM: The primary suspect in the theft of gold plates from Nancy Dias’s home in Saipem, Candolim, Bardez-Goa, has been captured by the Calangute Police. The defendant, identified as West Bengali native Eyakub Mondal, who worked for Dias as a servant, is said to have fled after stealing.
Following the incident on April 27, 2024, Nancy Dias filed a formal complaint with the Calangute Police Station. As a result, Crime No. 58/2024 was registered under Section 381 of the Indian Penal Code.
To find the accused, a team from the Calangute Police Station, consisting of PSI Akshay Parsekar, PC-7917 Gaurish Karbotkar, and P-7958 Harchandra Betkekar, set out for West Bengal. The culmination of their efforts was the successful capture of Eyakub Mondal at Village Panitara, which is located in the Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal and is under the jurisdiction of Kumarganj Police Station.
Law enforcement officials were able to retrieve a substantial amount of pilfered goods during the operation, including three 300-gram gold biscuits valued at about Rs. 25,00,000/-.
With overall supervision from SDPO Porvorim, Vishwesh Karpe, and SP North, Akshat Kaushal, IPS, the entire operation was carried out under the astute supervision and guidance of Paresh Naik, Police Inspector of Calangute Police Station.
