PANAJI: At a time when State is grappling to crub narcotic trade and its consumption, the drug menace has gained alarming proportion in Goa police, who are found to have addicted o this illicit product along with alcohol and Gambling activities.
The office of Director General of Police (DGP) has observed that consumption of drugs, alcohol and Gambling activities are undertaking by Police Officials while on duty and within the Police station premise.
DGP’s office has come across the fact that there are several Police Officials, who have been addicted to drugs and alcohol, thus affecting their physical and mental health.
“It has been reported that now a days there is increase in number of alcohol and drug addicts among the Police Officials, thus spoiling their physical as well as mental health,” the Note moved by DGP office stated.
“The Police Stations/Units, Rest Rooms has become such a place that Officers as well as lower staff consume alcohol and other drugs on duty and Gambling is also a part of activities in Police Stations/Units premises,” it added.
As such, DGP has directed all the I/Cs of Police Stations/Units to make a list of such officials and submit to their SPs for taking necessary action in the matter.
The Superintendent of Police of District/Units are asked to give surprise visit once a month and take action against such officials/Perosnnel who are addicted to Alcohol, Drugs and Gambling activities while on duty.
