PANAJI: Goa Police have initiated a state-wide survey to identify abandoned and unattended vehicles lying along roadsides across the state.
Officials said many such vehicles have been left unused for several days, occupying valuable parking space. In some cases, vehicles are being misused as makeshift storerooms, while junk and unroadworthy vehicles are found dumped on public roads.
As per Section 127(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, any vehicle left unattended for more than 10 hours is deemed an “abandoned vehicle.”
Owners have been directed to remove such vehicles within 15 days. Police said a follow-up survey will be carried out, and vehicles still found abandoned will be reported to the respective District Magistrate for further action, including proclamation orders and auction proceedings.
Goa Police have appealed to the public to cooperate in removing abandoned vehicles, thereby improving traffic flow, road safety, and the overall cleanliness of public spaces.
