PANAJI: In a significant breakthrough showcasing the vigilance and efficiency of the Goa Police, a murder accused who had been absconding for 35 years was successfully apprehended in Raia, Salcete, Goa.
Acting swiftly on crucial information received from Lodhika Police Station, Rajkot, Gujarat, the dedicated team from Maina Curtorim Police Station, under the leadership of PI Arun Gauns Dessai, sprang into action.
The accused, identified as Basappa s/o Girimala, a native of Arakera K, Khalsa, Laxmipur, Yadgir, Karnataka, was wanted in connection with Crime No. 53/1990 under Section 302 IPC for a murder case registered in 1990.
With the assistance of local intelligence, the team led by ASI Uday Velip, along with HC-5750 Somnath Naik, PC-6614 Amardeep Choudhary, and PC-7403 Dhiraj Naik, successfully traced and arrested the accused on 24/02/2025 at Raia, Salcete, Goa.
The operation was conducted under the close supervision of SDPO Margao Shri Shivram Vaingankar and SP South Goa Tikam Singh Verma.
The accused, who had evaded the law for over three decades, was arrested under Section 35 of the BNSS 2023.
Following the arrest, the Rajkot Police were promptly informed, and the accused was handed over to them for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This achievement highlights the Goa Police’s unwavering commitment to justice and collaboration with law enforcement agencies across state lines, ensuring that no criminal can escape the long arm of the law.
