CALANGUTE: Calangute Police have registered an offence based on a Zero FIR received from the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate in West Bengal, alleging that a Kolkata businessman was abducted and extorted while in Goa. The complaint, filed by Malabika Dey of Sector-V, Kolkata, states that between 31 May and 4 June 2025, the accused—identified as Kunal Verma, Puja Bannerjee alias Puja Bose, Piyush Kothari, and others—allegedly formed a criminal conspiracy to abduct her husband Shyam Sunder Dey and his assistant while they were travelling in a rented car within Calangute jurisdiction. The complainant alleges that the victim was restrained, forcibly abducted to various undisclosed locations, assaulted, threatened with false narcotics charges, and coerced into paying ₹23 lakh as extortion. The case was registered at Calangute Police Station at 10.03 pm on 26 June under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Yogesh Mandrekar.
