MARGAO: In a major crackdown on the illegal sale of e-cigarettes, the Margao Town Police, under the supervision of Police Inspector Suraj Samant, SDPO Margao Siddhant Shirodkar, and SP South Tikam Singh Verma, carried out two separate raids in Margao city on Friday.
In the first raid, police seized e-cigarettes valued at ₹40,000 and arrested one accused. In the second operation, e-cigarettes worth around ₹4.66 lakh and cigarettes without mandatory health warnings valued at ₹80,000 were confiscated.
Two persons were apprehended during the raids and booked under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement) Act, 2019.
Police said the action was part of their ongoing drive to curb the sale of e-cigarettes and enforce laws aimed at safeguarding public health. Further investigation is underway.
