PANAJI: Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh stated at a review meeting led by Director of the National Crime Records Bureau Vivek Gogia that his force is ready to begin enforcing the three new criminal laws on July 1.
Importantly, following the implementation of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Samhita, Bhartiya Sakshya Samhita, and Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita, the three outdated criminal laws—the Indian Penal Code of 1861, the Criminal Procedure Code of 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872—will no longer be in force.
SP North Akshat Kaushal gave a thorough presentation outlining the training programs planned for all ranks in front of Gogia. Several SPs and IGP Omvir Singh Bisnoi took part in the review meeting as well.
In addition to attending “Training of Trainers” courses, Gogia was informed that Rashtriya Raksha University, National Forensic Science University, Goa, and the Bureau of Police Research and Development have all trained Goa’s police officers.
The report also emphasized a number of technological advancements that are essential to putting into practice the mandates for mandatory videography of various police procedures and mandatory forensic examination of crime scenes by forensic teams.
According to DGP Singh, the State Government has already been asked to approve the hiring of forensic examination experts and to sanction a budget for the purchase of new equipment.
The majority of the new laws’ provisions go into force on July 1st, but some that deal with forensic testing and videography will take effect later.
