PANAJI:
In a significant move to bolster cyber security, leverage artificial intelligence, and enhance traffic compliance, the Goa Police launched several innovative programs on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
The event, held in the presence of Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, and top police officials, marked a pivotal moment in the state’s efforts to integrate technology and community engagement into law enforcement.
The initiatives include the establishment of a Dedicated Cyber Helpline Center (1930), the Cyber-Yoddha Programme, an AI-ML Lab, and the Quick Pass Mobile Application.
The Cyber-Yoddha Programme, a cornerstone of the Cyber Surakshit Goem campaign, aims to empower volunteers from various sectors, including students, media professionals, teachers, NGOs, and senior citizens, to serve as cyber awareness ambassadors. These volunteers will be trained by the Cyber Police Station to identify cybercrime trends and educate the public on preventive measures.
Goa Police has also set up an AI-ML Lab at the Crime Branch in Ribandar, in collaboration with Samruddh Bharat Technologies Pvt Ltd.
This lab will focus on developing AI-driven projects to enhance policing and cyber security, such as an AI-powered Help Desk, tools for identifying and blocking malicious content, and crime prediction models using Machine Learning. The lab will be supervised by SP Crime, Goa Police, and will include a dedicated team of police personnel and AI experts.
To streamline traffic enforcement, the Quick Pass Mobile Application has been introduced. This app allows drivers to generate a QR code as proof of compliance, eliminating the need for repeated document verification at traffic checkpoints.
The QR code remains valid for 12 hours unless a violation is detected. The application is designed to provide instant QR code generation, simplified verification for police officers, and an admin dashboard for real-time traffic data analysis.
As part of its commitment to strengthening cybercrime response, Goa Police has revamped the 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline. The helpline has been shifted from SPCR Panaji to the Cyber Crime PS to enhance accountability and coordination with investigation teams. Two dedicated phone lines are operational 24×7, staffed by a team of nine personnel who log complaints into the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) to facilitate rapid action.
Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant commended Goa Police for its proactive approach in integrating technology and community engagement. He emphasized that these initiatives would significantly improve cyber security, foster public trust, and enhance the overall efficiency of law enforcement.
Dr. Sawant also urged citizens to report cyber frauds immediately to ensure swift action.
DGP Goa, Alok Kumar, IPS, highlighted the importance of AI-driven solutions and community participation in modern policing. He reaffirmed Goa Police’s commitment to leveraging technology for public safety and crime prevention, citing various recent initiatives such as the TRACK Center, QR code-based public feedback, and the successful Hackathon 2024.
These new initiatives by Goa Police are expected to enhance digital literacy and improve operational efficiency, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts towards cybercrime prevention, AI-driven law enforcement, and efficient traffic management.
