MARGAO: The South Goa District Police have issued a public advisory cautioning citizens, businesses, and institutions against hiring unregistered private security agencies. Authorities warned that several establishments are engaging agencies operating without valid registration under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 (PSARA).
The advisory stressed the need for verifying the credentials and legal status of agencies and ensuring that all security personnel deployed have undergone character and antecedent checks. “Operation of any Private Security Agency without valid PSARA registration is a punishable offence,” the note stated, adding that legal action will be taken not only against unlicensed operators but also against those who knowingly hire their services.
Currently, 165 private security agencies are licensed to operate in Goa under PSARA. A comprehensive list of these authorized agencies has been made available for public reference.
The police have directed all station in-charges in South Goa to identify and initiate legal proceedings against any unregistered agencies functioning within their jurisdiction. Authorities cautioned that unregulated private security services could be misused for organized crime and gang-related activities.
