PANAJI: A political war of words has erupted in Goa, as Minister Sudin Dhavalikar issued a fiery rebuttal to MLA Vijai Sardesai’s provocative claim that the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) is unlikely to ever secure a ministerial berth again.
Sardesai, in a recent public statement, declared “There’s a strong possibility that Minister Sudin Dhavalikar may not return as a minister. Looking at the current situation, it seems likely that MGP won’t get a ministerial position again.”
He went further, attacking the MGP’s political strategy and principles “A party that aligns itself with all political parties needs to be questioned. This party has no clear ideology.”
Power Minister and MGP Supremo Sudin Dhavalikar did not hold back in his response. Targeting Sardesai’s political past, Dhavalikar fired back stating “MLA Vijai Sardesai should remember he began with the Congress. When 22 MLAs were elected from Congress, they tried to break the MGP. Why did they do that in 1999 if they already had a majority?”
He added “If a party has 22 seats, why does it need help from others? These are questions MLA Vijai must answer before pointing fingers.”
This exchange has reignited long-standing tensions between the two leaders and their respective camps.
With Sardesai branding the MGP as ideologically inconsistent, and Dhavalikar accusing Sardesai of political hypocrisy, the gloves are clearly off.
