PANAJI: Goa’s public healthcare system is undergoing a major transformation with the introduction of technology-driven interventions across Goa Medical College (GMC), district hospitals and sub-district hospitals, aimed at improving early diagnosis, access and quality of care.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the State is committed to building a modern and inclusive healthcare ecosystem that leverages technology for the benefit of every citizen. “Goa is adopting advanced medical technologies to ensure early detection, timely treatment and accessible healthcare for all. This transformation reflects our vision of patient-centric and future-ready public healthcare,” Rane said.
Under the Swasth Mahila Swasth Goa initiative, a statewide breast cancer screening programme using the iBreast Exam has been rolled out, enabling early detection among women. In another major step, AI-based lung cancer detection using qXR technology has been introduced at 17 health centres and Goa Medical College, significantly improving the speed and accuracy of diagnosis.
Critical care services have also been strengthened. The North Goa District Hospital has seen upgrades to its ICU and CCU facilities, while AI-enabled X-ray reporting has been introduced at Sub-District Hospital, Chicalim. South Goa District Hospital is now operating a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit, enhancing critical care capacity in the region.
Advanced healthcare services have further expanded with the establishment of a Diabetic Retinopathy Centre, AI-based X-ray diagnostics, a Dental Specialty Clinic, and a Dialysis Apex Kidney Care Centre with ICU support, ensuring comprehensive care for patients with chronic and critical conditions.
“These initiatives are not just about infrastructure, but about delivering timely, accurate and compassionate care. Technology allows our doctors to diagnose faster and treat better, especially in life-threatening conditions,” the Health Minister added.
With these initiatives, Goa continues to position itself as a model state in public healthcare delivery, integrating innovation with accessibility to ensure quality medical services reach every section of society.
