PANAJI: Goa has emerged as the country’s second most inflation-affected State, with consumer prices in July 2025 rising by 6.34 percent compared to the same month last year.
The State trails only Kerala, which recorded the highest inflation rate at 8.89 percent.
The latest figures from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) show Goa well above the national average, highlighting the growing pressure on household budgets in a State otherwise known for its high per-capita income and human development indicators.
While food prices at the all-India level showed a decline of nearly 1.8 percent year-on-year in July, Goa witnessed an upward spiral in costs across essential commodities, adding to worries for both residents and the tourism-driven economy.
Experts point out that sustained inflation could dampen consumer sentiment in Goa, particularly with the festival season approaching.
Economists have also warned that without effective interventions, the State risks facing a prolonged rise in living costs that could hurt households and businesses alike.
