Panaji: Goa witnessed a total of 198 road accidents in March 2025, resulting in 20 fatalities, according to the monthly report released by the Directorate of Transport.
Of the total accidents, 20 were classified as fatal — 12 in North Goa and eight in South Goa. The report further noted 18 grievous accidents (North Goa – 8, South Goa – 10), 44 minor accidents (North Goa – 15, South Goa – 29), and 116 non-injury accidents (North Goa – 60, South Goa – 56).
The fatalities included 12 riders (North Goa – 5, South Goa – 7), three pillion riders (all from North Goa), and five pedestrians (North Goa – 4, South Goa – 1). In addition to the deaths, 24 persons sustained grievous injuries, evenly split between North Goa and South Goa with 12 each, while 65 persons suffered minor injuries (North Goa – 21, South Goa – 44).
The Transport Directorate has also reported an increase in enforcement activities, with a significant number of challans issued during the month, although detailed figures for traffic violations were not immediately disclosed.
Authorities have reiterated the need for stricter road safety measures and greater public awareness to reduce the number of accidents and casualties on Goan roads.
