PANAJI: The monsoon conditions have been a weekend over the Goa coast, even after its onset on June 10. The State recorded nearly 26 per cent deficit showers in the season’s first week.
IMD, in a bulletin issued, has informed that the monsoon would be large deficient till June 22 and might pick up after that.
“Rainfall is very likely to be Large Deficient in Week 1 (June 16 – June 22) & Excess in Week 2 (June 23–June 29) over North Goa and South Goa districts,” IMD states.
During the period, the Maximum temperature will likely be above normal during Week 1 (June 16 – June 22) & Week 2 (June 23 –June 29) over North Goa and South Goa districts. And the Minimum Temperatures will likely be above normal during Week 1 (June 16 – June 22) & Week 2 (June 23 –June 29) over North Goa and South Goa districts.
Meteorologist, Dr Ramesh Kumar said several factors, including the severe cyclone “Biparjoy”, led to a delay in the onset of monsoon in Kerala.
He said apart from the initial hiccups, the State will receive a good amount of rainfall this year.
“We don’t have to worry too much. There won’t be any rainfall deficit in Goa. The State receives good rainfall in July and August, the peak season for monsoon. Goa receives maximum rains in July,” he said.
He said in 2019, there were around five cyclones in the Arabian Sea and yet the State received heavy rainfall that year.
