PANAJI: IMD has extended the red colour warning for today, July 16. Moderate (5-15 mm per hour) to heavy (approximately 15 mm per hour) rainfall with strong surface wind gusting to 30-40 kmph is very likely to continue at most places over North Goa and South Goa during the next 1-3 hours, stated a nowcast issued by IMD at 10 am today.
All talukas are likely to get affected as the clouds are developing and approaching North & South Goa districts from the Arabian Sea in South-Easterly direction, added the release. Heavy rain has been lashing Goa for the past several days.
Multiple incidents of house walls collapsing, roads getting inundated with water, trees getting uprooted, water entering houses and shops etc have been reported across Goa. The state has recorded 45% surplus rain as of today.
IMD stated that isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat region, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka on July 16.
IMD has issued a red alert for isolated areas in Konkan, Goa, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Saurashtra & Kutch, and Madhya Maharashtra in anticipation of the severe weather conditions.
Over the next four to five days, the IMD also predicts increased monsoon activity in the Peninsula and surrounding central India, highlighting the possibility of extensive weather effects over these areas.
