PANAJI: Goa Police has reported a significant drop in the number of emergency calls received on its 112 helpline between January and August 2025, compared to the same period last year. Officials said the 8.82% overall reduction reflects improved law and order across the state.
According to police data, complaints of crimes against women saw the sharpest fall, down by 31.79% — from 541 cases in 2024 to 369 this year. Snatching incidents reduced by 28.57% (105 to 75), while theft cases fell by 20.98% (691 to 546).
Other notable declines include bullfighting complaints, which dropped by 41.67%, and hit-and-run cases, which dipped 16.61%. Assault-related calls were down by 8.47%, accident-related calls by 7.74%, traffic complaints by 7.24%, and noise pollution reports by 4.8%.
Police officials attributed the overall improvement to systematic tenant and servant verification, preventive action against known anti-social elements, deployment of new PCR vehicles in sensitive areas, and targeted action against repeat offenders.
“These measures have reduced opportunities for crime and strengthened public confidence,” the Public Relations Officer said in a statement, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any unlawful activity via the 112 emergency helpline or at the nearest police station.
