MIRAMAR: The Goa government today paid heartfelt tributes to former chief minister Manohar Parrikar on his birth anniversary, with political leaders cutting across party lines remembering his contribution to the state’s development and governance.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, accompanied by Union Minister Shripad Naik, BJP Goa President Damodar Naik, party leaders and government officials, paid floral tributes at Parrikar’s memorial at Miramar Beach. Members of the Parrikar family, including his sons Utpal and Abhijat, were also present.
Speaking to reporters, Sawant described Parrikar as a visionary leader whose decisions laid a strong foundation for Goa’s progress. He said Parrikar’s tenure was marked by a clear focus on infrastructure growth and human development, adding that the present government continues to implement projects inspired by his vision.
“Goa will always remember Manohar Parrikar for the transformative developmental works he initiated,” the chief minister said, adding that his legacy continues to guide the state’s governance.
BJP Goa President Damodar Naik recalled that Parrikar played a key role in introducing several social welfare schemes aimed at supporting the poor and underprivileged. He said these initiatives have been carried forward and strengthened by subsequent BJP governments in the state.
Leaders at the event said Parrikar’s simplicity, administrative acumen and commitment to public service continue to inspire both politicians and citizens, reaffirming his enduring place in Goa’s political history.
