PANAJI: In the first half of this year, the State reported 1,701 suspected dengue cases, of which 177 were confirmed.
During the same time frame, there were 2 confirmed cases of chikungunya and 195 suspected cases.
The information was disclosed on Wednesday at a joint meeting of the State Task Force for Malaria Elimination and the State Level Committee for Vector-Borne Diseases.
The meeting was presided over by Secretary of Health Arun Kumar Mishra, who asked for recommendations from different departments regarding vector-borne disease prevention and control. He also gave the concerned members instructions on how to put these recommendations into practice.
Dr. Kalpana Mahatme, Deputy Director of the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Program and State Programme Officer, talked about the different methods used to prevent dengue and chikungunya.
