PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review key renewable energy initiatives in Goa, underlining the government’s commitment to make the state a national model for sustainability. Senior officials from departments including Finance, Home, GPCB, and GAD were present at the meeting.
A key decision taken was the transformation of the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) from a society into a company. The move is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and allowing GEDA to better implement clean energy programs. The government also approved a recruitment drive to appoint a Managing Director and other essential staff to build institutional capacity.
The meeting focused on the expansion of solar energy, biogas, and solar water heating projects across the state. Emphasis was placed on the effective implementation of the PM Suryaghar Yojana, ensuring safety and reliable Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) for rooftop solar consumers.
In a boost to electric mobility, the government approved a shared-cost model for setting up EV charging stations, with 50% funding from the government and the remaining investment from private developers.
Other measures discussed included the expansion of solar street lighting in both rural and urban areas and enhanced subsidies for biogas units, solar water heaters, and renewable installations in government buildings.
“The Government of Goa is firmly committed to sustainable development. These steps will ensure energy security while promoting a cleaner, greener future,” said Dr. Sawant.
The decisions mark a major step forward in Goa’s renewable energy roadmap and are expected to accelerate the adoption of green technologies across sectors.
