PANAJI: In a significant step towards ensuring dignity, equality and protection for people living with HIV, the Goa State AIDS Control Society (Goa SACS) has organised a training programme for Complaints Officers under the HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act, 2017. The programme, held at the Secretariat in Porvorim, was inaugurated by Dr. Vandana Dhume, Project Director, Goa SACS.
The appointment and training of Complaints Officers is a vital part of the legal framework that addresses stigma, discrimination and violation of rights faced by people living with HIV. The initiative aims to empower officers with the knowledge and capacity to handle grievances effectively, thereby fostering a culture of compassion and inclusivity across institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane underscored the government’s commitment to protecting the rights of vulnerable communities. “The HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act is a landmark legislation that upholds the principles of equality and human dignity. Through the training of Complaints Officers, we are ensuring that institutions across Goa become safe spaces where every individual is treated with respect and care. The government remains fully committed to supporting people living with HIV and eliminating stigma from society,” Rane said.
Goa SACS officials stressed that the training marks a crucial step in strengthening grievance redressal mechanisms, ensuring that those affected by HIV can access justice without fear of discrimination.
