PANAJI: Goa’s schools have officially started the 2025-26 academic session for students in Classes VI to X and XII today, April 7. This new academic year, following a revised schedule, will run from April to March, diverging from the traditional June to April timeline. Students in Classes I to V and Class XI will begin their academic term on June 4, 2025, and end in March 2026.
Due to the ongoing heat wave conditions, which are expected to last until April 9, schools will operate only until 11:30 AM during April. A five-week summer vacation is scheduled to begin on May 1, 2025.
The new academic calendar, introduced to align with the National Education Policy (NEP), aims to ensure timely completion of the curriculum and meet the required 220 instructional hours. For the 2025-26 academic year, the first term will run from April 7 to October 15, while the second term will span from November 4 to March 24, 2026.
Schools have also announced breaks during major festivals, including the Ganesh Chaturthi holidays from August 26 to September 1, the Diwali vacation from October 16 to November 3, and the annual Christmas break from December 24 to January 2.
In addition, the Department of Education (DoE) has instructed schools to conclude the First Summative or Terminal Examination by October 7 and to schedule the Second Summative Exams before March 13, 2026.
This adjustment in the academic schedule aims to streamline educational processes and accommodate seasonal weather conditions while adhering to national educational policies.
