PANAJI: As part of the lead-up to International Yoga Day, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all schools in Goa to start daily yoga sessions for students beginning June 4, the first day of the new academic year.
The directive applies to all primary, secondary, higher secondary, government, aided, unaided, and special schools across the state.
In a circular issued to institutions, Director of Education Shailesh Zingade stated that schools must allocate at least 30 minutes each morning for yoga practice before academic classes begin.
These sessions will continue until June 21, with the option to extend them based on the discretion of individual schools. Zingade emphasized that the sessions should focus on age-appropriate yoga postures, breathing exercises, and basic meditation practices to ensure inclusivity and student comfort.
To commemorate International Yoga Day, schools are also required to organize special yoga activities on June 21.
Photographs and a brief report of these events must be submitted to the DoE by June 25.
