PANAJI: The State Election Commission (SEC), Goa has issued a notification declaring the reservation of constituencies for the upcoming North and South Goa Zilla Panchayat elections. The reservations are based on population data of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), as well as women representation under Section 118 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994.
In North Goa, constituencies such as Arambol, Colvale, Calangute, and Reis-Magos have been reserved for women, while Taleigao is reserved for ST and Querim for SC. Several others, including Torxem, Anjuna, and Pale, are earmarked for OBCs.
In South Goa, seats like Usgao-Ganje, Borim, Siroda, and Cortalim are reserved for women; Curti, Raia, and Guirdolim for ST; and Queula, Nuvem, and Curtorim for OBCs.
The notification, signed by Menino D’Souza, IAS (Retd.), Commissioner of the State Election Commission, Goa, will apply to the ensuing General Elections to both Zilla Panchayats. Public suggestions can be sent to dir-gpps.goa@nic.in
