PANAJI: Goa’s tourism department is preparing to dispatch a delegation to Poland, Georgia, and Kazakhstan to promote the state as a prime destination for international tourists. The department aims to organize roadshows and engage in tourism conferences within these countries, hoping this initiative will result in a continuous influx of international travelers to Goa.
A delegation consisting of six members from the Goa tourism board, including representatives from the hospitality industry, will take part in these roadshows, according to official sources.
The government will cover the expenses for the trip, with the tourism department projected to allocate nearly Rs 2 crore for organizing the roadshows.
The roadshows, which will span an entire day, are set to take place at luxury five-star resorts. Travel and tour operators, outbound tour managers, and officials from the Indian embassy are anticipated to join the discussions.
Additionally, the tourism department plans to showcase Goan cuisine and highlight the region’s famous cashew feni during these events.
The tourism department’s proposal for the upcoming roadshows highlights the main goal of positioning Goa as a safe, world-class destination in the global tourism market. With increasing competition from Southeast Asian countries, Goa aims to boost its visibility and promote “Brand Goa” through these international events.
The department is determined to market the state aggressively, but some critics question whether the roadshows will yield the desired results. The plan underscores the importance of Goa staying competitive by reaching out to potential visitors in international markets.
A department official emphasized that Goa needs to build its presence in these markets and introduce new tourism experiences to attract more international travelers.
The roadshows in Poland, Georgia, and Kazakhstan are seen as a way to spark interest in the state’s diverse offerings, from its sunny beaches to its rich culture. Although the dates for the roadshows are yet to be finalized, the department hopes to make them paperless events, aligning with sustainable practices.
