MUMBAI/GOA: A director of a Goa-based shipping company was arrested at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while attempting to fly to Bangkok, in connection with an alleged international human trafficking network.
The arrest followed a lookout notice issued by the FRRO Chennai.
Authorities recovered forged ship-joining letters, multiple mobile phones and SIM cards, and fraudulent e-migration documents during the search.
Investigators claim the accused lured migrants with promises of overseas maritime jobs, charging between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh per person, but instead facilitated their illegal travel to countries including the UK and the US.
At least six victims, including Goan residents, have come forward so far. A senior official disclosed that the network has alleged connections spanning Punjab, Haryana, Mexico, and the United States, and may involve hawala operators and compromised immigration personnel.
The accused has reportedly confessed to deceiving multiple individuals and is currently in judicial custody. As the probe intensifies, Goa Police are expected to take over parts of the investigation.
