Panaji: Goa exported more than 45,000 tonnes of seafood during the financial year 2024–25, with Southeast Asia, China, and the European Union emerging as the largest markets, according to data from the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).
Official figures presented in the Assembly on Thursday revealed that the State shipped 45,469 tonnes of marine products, valued at Rs 788.81 crore, during the year.
Fresh fish dominated the exports, totaling 35,913 tonnes worth Rs 504.60 crore. Squid exports amounted to 5,233 tonnes valued at Rs 146.61 crore, while frozen shrimp shipments reached 1,951 tonnes, fetching Rs 78.58 crore. Other items included 831 tonnes of cuttlefish worth Rs 27.22 crore and 1,541 tonnes of assorted fish varieties valued at Rs 31.80 crore.
Trade data indicated that Southeast Asia was the largest importer of Goan seafood, taking in 37,779 tonnes valued at Rs 596.20 crore. China imported 3,531 tonnes worth Rs 65.53 crore, while the European Union accounted for 1,279 tonnes valued at Rs 44.04 crore. The Middle East imported 1,824 tonnes worth Rs 46.81 crore.
Smaller consignments were also shipped to countries such as Japan and the United States, which together received over 110 tonnes valued at more than Rs 6.6 crore.
The government clarified that MPEDA figures could include seafood sourced from other states but exported via Goa.
