MORMUGAO:Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a premier Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, on Wednesday morning, successfully launched the second indigenously designed Pollution Control Vessel (PCV), Samudra Prachet (Yard 1268), for the Indian Coast Guard on Wednesday at its shipyard in Vasco-da-Gama.
The vessel was ceremoniously launched by Priya Paramesh in the presence of Director General Paramesh Sivamani, AVSM, PTM, TM, Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, who was the chief guest. This vessel is the second in the series, following the launch of Samudra Pratap (Yard 1267) in August 2024.
DG Sivamani highlighted the strategic role of the vessel in enhancing India’s marine pollution response and environmental protection capabilities. GSL Chairman & Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay praised Team GSL for achieving 72% indigenous content and reaffirmed the shipyard’s contribution to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.
Designed and built entirely in-house by GSL, Samudra Prachet is a 114.5-metre-long, 4,170-tonne vessel equipped with advanced systems including oil spill detection radar, side-sweeping arms, and onboard oil recovery and separation capabilities. It will be manned by 14 officers and 115 sailors.
The launch marked another milestone in GSL’s efforts towards sustainable maritime development and further cemented its collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard to safeguard India’s maritime interests.
