PANAJI: Goa will be launching C2S (Chips to startup) flagship programme through NIT & IIT institutes very soon. Union Govt has conveyed its sanction to the state govt. to start this programme for 5 years. Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte who also holds IT portfolio announced this today in a Laptop distribution function for the meritorious students of SC ST community who have passed Xth std. in 2021-22.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s plans to transform India into the next semiconductor hub, the Ministry of Electronics and Information has sought applications from 100 academia, R & D organisations, start-ups and MSMEs under C2S. From Goa NIT & IIT has applied for it and have been accorded sanction.
This C2S aims to train 85,000 high-quality and qualified engineers in the area of Very large-scale integration (VLSI) and Embedded System Design as well as result in development of 175 ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits), Working Prototypes of 20 System on Chips and IP Core repository over a period of 5 years. This will be a step towards leapfrogging in the Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) space by way of inculcating the culture of SoC/ System Level Design at Bachelors, Masters and Research level and act as a catalyst for growth of Start- ups involved in fabless design.
Khaunte said recently during his Delhi visit, he had a meeting with union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav during which he had a detail discussion on above programme and very next day sanction was given. He said now the whole world is technology driven and we need to come into that domain, else there will be a technology gap created and we will be in dark. Therefore he appealed the students to make best use of resources available and tune up in line with technology thereby giving no space for the gap to come up.
Khaunte said today’s young generation is the future of India and appealed students to be sincere and disciplined to shape their life & career. During covid times Govt realized the issue of connectivity in remote areas of state. But this issue Govt. took as opportunity to think differently and became the facilitator in making resources available, he added. He appealed students to keep in mind sacrifices done by parents for their upliftment. IT minister Khaunte also announced that Goa will start its first 3D printer soon in December.
Today in a glittering function held at ESG Khaunte along with Chairman of ITG Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, IT Secreatry Sanjeev Ahuja, Director IT Praveen Volvotkar & Tribal Welfare Director Tirveni Velip handed over laptops to meritorious students of SC ST. This scheme which is the brain-child of IT minister was notified by Goa govt. on 2 sep 2022. The aim of the scheme was to promote IT/digital skills among students of SC/ST & to encourage them for higher education in field of IT.
Department of IT, Electronics & communication have organized the function at ESG Panaji. In all 172 meritorious SC ST students were handed over laptops at the hands of minister and other dignitaries. To inaugurate the function all the dignitaries lit the traditional lamp. Dignitaries were accorded floral welcome. Dr Shetye, Shri Ahuja, Mrs Velip also spoke on the occasion. Shri Volvotkar proposed vote of thanks. Entire event was compeered by siddhi upadhye.
