PANAJI: Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar has yet again disallowed adjournment motion moved by the MLA Vijai Sardesai demanding discussion on the allegations of corruption levelled by the Speaker against Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had moved the motion under Rule 68 of Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business of the Goa Legislative Assembly, demanding discussion on serious allegation regarding misappropriation of funds by the Department of Art and Culture, while giving special financial assistance (grants) for organising cultural events.
In addition, he wanted to talk about the purported audio recording of the Minister in which he was heard swearing and threatening a government employee (the Director of Tribal Affairs) for carrying out official events in the Minister’s district.
Since the accusations made by the Speaker and the Minister were grave, Sardesai urged the Speaker to halt question hour and begin discussing his motion for adjournment as soon as the fourth day of sessions began.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant clarified, however, that the Speaker’s approval was required in order to adjourn the House’s business in accordance with Rule 69 of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business of the Goa Legislative Assembly. He emphasized that the motion includes the Speaker’s name, so as a result.
