PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced the Goa State Film Festival 2025, a landmark edition that will combine the 10th, 11th, and 12th iterations of the festival into one grand celebration, marking 75 years of Goan cinema. Addressing the media in the presence of MLA and ESG Vice Chairperson Delilah Lobo and other dignitaries, the Chief Minister described the upcoming festival as the biggest cinematic event ever hosted by the state, aimed at both honoring Goa’s rich film heritage and creating new opportunities for the local film industry.
The festival will feature an exciting array of events, including film screenings, competitions, Q&A sessions, workshops, panel discussions, a knowledge series, and market interactions. One of the highlights is the Short Film Making Challenge — a pre-festival contest where participants will receive a theme 48 hours prior to the deadline, with the best entries set to be screened and awarded during the main event.
Submissions for the competition section will open on June 17, 2025, and close on July 7, 2025. In addition to the core festival programming, the government is launching several initiatives to strengthen Goa’s filmmaking ecosystem. These include exchange programs for Goan film students and professionals, representation of Goan films at international festivals, studio space collaborations to improve production infrastructure, and a proposed financial incentive policy to attract more film shoots to the state.
Calling upon filmmakers, students, and cinephiles from across the country, the Chief Minister said the festival is not just a celebration of Goan cinema’s past, but a powerful step toward its future. The Goa State Film Festival 2025 is expected to set a new benchmark in regional film promotion and industry development.
