PANAJI: In a significant advancement in healthcare services, the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa has inaugurated an Apheresis Facility at its Blood Centre.
This cutting-edge technology allows for the selective collection of specific blood components, including platelets, plasma, and red blood cells, thereby enhancing the care provided to patients with unique medical needs.
The inauguration of the Apheresis Facility was announced by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, highlighting the facility’s potential to strengthen healthcare services in the region. The unit was officially opened by Dr Vandana Dhume, Director of the Goa State AIDS Control Society (GSACS). This development is part of the broader efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure in Goa, aligning with the state’s commitment to providing advanced medical facilities.
Apheresis is a medical technology that enables the collection of specific blood components from a donor, allowing for more targeted treatments. This facility will enable the collection of single donor platelets (SDP) and single donor plasma (SDP), which are crucial for patients requiring precise blood component transfusions. The introduction of this facility underscores Goa’s efforts to modernize its healthcare sector and provide specialized services that cater to diverse patient needs.
The introduction of the Apheresis Facility at the North Goa District Hospital reflects a growing trend in healthcare towards more personalized and effective treatments. Apheresis technology is particularly beneficial for patients undergoing chemotherapy, those with severe bleeding disorders, or those requiring specific blood components for surgical procedures. This advancement aligns with global healthcare trends, where precision medicine and targeted therapies are increasingly emphasized.
