PANAJI: Goa endured a 236-run defeat against Baroda in their Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy Elite (Under-23, four-day match) Group A encounter at the GCA ground in Sanguem. Baroda took control early, scoring 298 runs in their first innings, while Goa replied with 252, leaving the visitors with a slight edge.
In their second innings, Baroda added 330 for 9 declared, setting Goa a challenging target of 377 runs. Raj Limbani was the standout performer for Baroda, remaining unbeaten on 64 off 55 balls, while Jadav Rajvirsinh contributed 41 runs. Goa needed to bat resolutely to earn points from a draw, but they struggled in the chase and were dismissed for 140 runs in 49 overs. Aryan Narvekar (29) and Kaushal Hattangadi (30) provided some resistance, while Anuj Yadav remained not out on 18.
Baroda’s bowling attack was effective throughout the match. Yash Kasvankar, Anuj Yadav, and Lakhmesh Pawne each took two wickets, while Manish Kakode claimed one, restricting Goa’s batting line-up. Despite some fighting contributions in both innings, Goa were unable to counter Baroda’s strong performances with either bat or ball.
With this result, Goa remain focused on their upcoming fixture, scheduled for January 30 at the GCA ground in Sanguem, hoping to bounce back in the tournament.
