PONDA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the Government of Goa is working towards establishing 168 libraries across the state, with 20 already completed, as he inaugurated the renovated Municipal Library and E-Vachanalaya (E-Library) facility at Ponda Municipality.
The project has been implemented under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment and aims to strengthen children’s and adolescent libraries while building a strong digital infrastructure.
Highlighting the broader vision, Sawant said, “We have set a target of 168 libraries across Goa to promote digital learning and strengthen access to knowledge. So far, 20 libraries have been completed, and work is progressing in other areas.”
He added that the upgraded facility at Ponda will benefit students preparing for competitive exams, youth seeking study spaces, and senior citizens in need of a dedicated reading environment.
“This is not just about infrastructure. It is about investing in knowledge, nurturing reading habits, and focusing on human development as we move towards Viksit Bharat 2047,” the Chief Minister said.
The E-Vachanalaya initiative is expected to boost digital access and create modern learning hubs across the state as part of Goa’s larger education and development roadmap.
