PANAJI: In a meeting with the Director of Transport, a group of taxi operators voiced their opposition to the Goa Transport Aggregator Guidelines 2025, arguing that they seek to standardize all cabs under app-based services.
Citing risks to their livelihood, the cab drivers expressed their worries over the change.
However, following the meeting, the taxi operators and Transport Director Polumatla P. Abhishek both said that the talks were fruitful and recommended establishing consistent rates that strike a balance between providing reasonable prices for passengers and guaranteeing steady income for drivers.
“Our discussion with taxi operators and their leaders was fruitful and significant. In order to ensure that taxi services are available for convenience, we have presented the taxi association with fresh ideas and a new framework for how they might enhance their operations and implement new technology. In order to consult with their own stakeholders, the taxi operators have asked that they be allowed some time. Abhishek stated, “They are prepared to work constructively with solutions.”
According to Abhishek, the government has put together a pamphlet with all the recommended options. In addition to ensuring the convenience of both residents and visitors, we should implement standard tariffs and preserve drivers’ earnings regardless of the type of service or aggregator.
We’ve talked about all the suggestions, and they’re really positive. They want to consider them and get back to us,” he said.
However, the cab drivers claimed that once the director gave them an explanation, they promised to follow up with him on a number of different matters. One of the operators stated, “It was a successful meeting, and we will provide our feedback after which another meeting will be called.”
“After we informed the director of our problems, he recommended holding a number of meetings to address them. The director also concurred that Goa is not comparable to big cities. We won’t be using the app. We explained to him why Goa does not support app taxi services.
