PANAJI: In a bid to fast-track infrastructure development, the Goa government has decided to prioritise projects under central government schemes that provide full (100%) financial assistance. The initiative aims to drive progress across key sectors — including transport, healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply, and ports — while minimising the financial burden on the State’s exchequer.
To streamline the process, the government plans to appoint specialised consultants who will coordinate with various departments. These consultants will be tasked with preparing detailed project reports (DPRs), submitting proposals, and ensuring compliance with the guidelines of relevant central ministries. Officials said the move is expected to increase Goa’s success rate in securing central funding and expedite project execution.
According to senior officials, this strategy aligns with the government’s larger vision of transforming Goa into a “model developed state.” By leveraging centrally funded schemes, the State hopes to close critical infrastructure gaps, improve essential services, and stimulate economic and tourism growth.
Experts have welcomed the decision, noting that it could significantly boost both urban and rural development. With the central government covering the entire project cost, Goa can now implement ambitious plans in areas such as road networks, water infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare, without straining its fiscal resources.
Departments have been directed to identify eligible projects and work closely with the appointed consultants to ensure timely proposal submissions and swift implementation once projects receive approval.
