VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho unveiled a set of measures to strengthen road safety and promote sustainable transport in the state.
He was speaking at the launch of the 14th State Road Safety Week at St. Andrew’s Higher Secondary School, Vasco.
Godinho announced that artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cameras will soon be placed at major traffic junctions across Goa to detect violations and improve commuter safety.
He also said that the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) fleet will see the addition of more electric buses, a step aimed at reducing road congestion and encouraging greener mobility.
The minister urged citizens, particularly young riders and drivers, to prioritise personal responsibility in ensuring safer roads.
“Simple acts like wearing helmets, following traffic rules, and avoiding rash driving can save lives. Road safety is not just the government’s task but a shared duty,” he emphasised.
The week-long campaign will include awareness drives in schools and communities, focusing on safe driving habits, pedestrian safety, and the risks associated with overspeeding and drunk driving.
