Panaji: Goa will soon roll out a QR-code-based digital tracking system to monitor garbage collection and disposal across municipalities, as part of its mission to become a model state in sustainable waste management.
Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane, who chaired a review meeting on Friday, said the new system will bring transparency and accountability at every stage of waste handling.
“Through QR-code based monitoring, every step of garbage collection — from households to final disposal — can be tracked in real time. This will not only enhance efficiency but also ensure accountability,” Rane said.
Under the initiative, each household and collection point will be tagged with unique QR codes, enabling authorities to track whether waste has been collected, segregated into four categories, and disposed of scientifically.
The Minister added that training programmes for sanitation workers will complement the digital system, equipping them to handle segregation and reporting effectively.
Officials including Director of Municipal Administration Brijesh Manerkar, Chief Town Planner Vertika Dagur, Engineer Shri Muzzawar, officials of the TCP, and Advisor to UD Pratyusha Jain were present at the meeting.
Rane emphasized that with this integration of technology and ground-level implementation, Goa will set a benchmark in urban cleanliness under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.
