PORVORIM:
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday confirmed that the state will implement reservation for Scheduled Tribes in its legislative assembly by the 2027 elections. This decision is in accordance with directives from the Union Government and the Ministry of Law and Justice.
The announcement came in response to a query raised by Independent MLA Anton Vas during the assembly session. The Chief Minister stated in a written reply that the reservation will be rolled out for the next Assembly elections in 2027, ensuring four seats are designated for ST candidates.
With the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls now concluded, the state government will follow up on the matter with the Union government to ensure timely implementation. Goa’s assembly, currently composed of 40 members, will adjust to accommodate the new reservations.
