LONDON: Goa Tourism made a lasting impression at the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2024, held from 5th to 7th November, presenting Goa as a destination rich in cultural heritage, spirituality, and natural beauty.
Goa’s pavilion offered visitors an immersive experience, showcasing the state’s commitment to sustainable and regenerative tourism, along with its deep-rooted traditions and diversity.
The Goa Tourism delegation, led by Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and Printing and Stationery, along with Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, Secretary Tourism; Shri Sandip Jacques, IAS, Secretary (Exposition of St. Francis Xavier); Kuldeep Arolkar, Deputy Director, Department of Tourism; and Shawn Mendes, OSD to the Minister for Tourism engaged with global industry leaders to forge connections that drive Goa’s tourism vision forward.
Key discussions focused on responsible tourism, cultural experiences, and unique offerings that position Goa as a must-visit destination globally.
As part of its outreach, the Goa delegation also visited prominent pavilions, including the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club Pavilion.
Additionally, a visit to the Saudi Pavilion allowed fruitful exchanges, where Minister for Tourism Rohan A. Khaunte and Goa Tourism delegates explored collaborative opportunities aimed at fostering global tourism partnerships.
The Goa Tourism Pavilion welcomed distinguished guests, including His Excellency Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Saudi Tourism Authority, and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Government of India.
His Excellency engaged in meaningful discussions with Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister for Tourism Rohan A. Khaunte, focusing on collaborative pathways to elevate tourism.
Adding to the occasion, Goa Tourism was honoured to host distinguished members of the Goan diaspora, including opera singer, Oscar Castellino; PR Director of GOA UK, Chloe De Mendonca; President of GOA UK, Ravi Vaz; and father of former UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman, Chris Fernandes. Their presence evoked a deep sense of nostalgia for Goa, reaffirming the strong connection that continues to unite the Goan community across borders.
The Goa Pavilion showcased the “Goa Beyond Beaches” and Regenerative Tourism initiatives, encouraging visitors to discover Goa’s adventure, wellness, spiritual, and hinterland tourism offerings. This presentation emphasized Goa’s commitment to preserving its natural and cultural assets while fostering sustainable growth.
Minister for Tourism Rohan A. Khaunte shared his pride in showcasing Goa’s unique offerings to an international audience.
He stated, “WTM London was an incredible platform to bring forth the diverse and enriching tourism offerings of our state. It gave the opportunity to connect with global tourism leaders, build valuable networks, and share Goa’s vision as a vibrant, culturally-rich destination. Our aim was to showcase Goa beyond beaches, inviting travellers to immerse themselves in the state’s heritage, spirituality, and sustainable offerings. These elements combine to create an experience that is uniquely fulfilling and unforgettable.”
Secretary Tourism, Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS, echoed this sentiment*, emphasizing Goa’s appeal to conscious travellers. He stated, “Our presence at WTM London was crafted to offer the world a taste of Goa’s authenticity. From cultural showcases to eco-friendly initiatives, we aimed to connect with those who value meaningful and responsible travel.”
Goa Tourism’s participation at WTM London has set the stage for heightened interest in the state’s distinctive tourism offerings. Visitors left with a deeper appreciation of the natural beauty, cultural richness, and forward-thinking efforts that make Goa a truly one-of-a-kind destination.
