PANAJI: Goa’s Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has called for responsible commentary on the state’s tourism sector, stressing the importance of reinforcing Goa’s “positive vibe” as the state looks to position itself as a year-round destination.
Addressing the media, Khaunte announced that the state is actively promoting “Monsoon Tourism” as a new narrative. “Goa is more than just sun, sand, and sea. With Monsoon Tourism, we want to showcase the natural beauty and cultural richness that thrives during the rains,” he said.
The minister also revealed that tourism projects worth ₹400 crore have been sanctioned under the Centre’s Capital Investment Scheme, aimed at broadening the scope of tourism in the state. “We must allow tourists to explore the hinterlands and discover the many hidden facets of Goa,” he added.
One of the major projects includes the development of a town square in Porvorim, envisioned as a vibrant public space for community events, cultural showcases, and recreational activities. Spread across 11,000 square meters of Housing Board land and involving three allocated plots, the project carries a total cost of ₹120.97 crore.
“This will be a platform for various artists and performers, offering new opportunities and creative spaces for Goans,” Khaunte said, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy, and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for their support.
The minister expressed optimism that these initiatives will redefine Goa’s tourism appeal and open up new avenues for both local communities and visitors.
