Taleigao: Goa University marked National Sports Day 2025 on September 2, commemorating the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
The celebration began with the garlanding of Major Dhyan Chand’s portrait by Prof. Sunder Dhuri, Registrar of Goa University, followed by the administration of the National Sports Day pledge. Faculty members, students, and staff enthusiastically took part, reaffirming their commitment to the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.
Adding to the occasion, Goa University inaugurated the Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi Championship for Men and Women, which will run from September 2 to 5, 2025, on the University campus. This year’s event has drawn 28 men’s teams and 19 women’s teams from colleges across Goa, making it one of the largest kabaddi tournaments at the university level.
Speaking at the event, university officials emphasized the institution’s ongoing commitment to promoting sports and physical education, while paying tribute to Major Dhyan Chand’s enduring legacy in Indian sports history.
